Transit is Essential | We Move People
Every segment of Ohio – businesses, communities, individuals, and families – benefit from public transportation, an essential service that enhances economic development, safeguards sustainable lifestyles, and promotes a higher quality of life.
The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) provides over 24 million rides each year, helping to create and maintain jobs that are essential in keeping our communities strong. Statewide, public transit offers 71 million rides per year to Ohioans. We connect friends and neighbors to jobs, schools, medical appointments and much more. Whether delivering groceries or providing a ride to work…we are a lifeline for our community.
We serve as a vital link for vulnerable populations including the elderly and those with disabilities, providing rides to job training programs, medical appointments, and a myriad of work sites across Greater Cleveland.
We continue to meet the daily mobility needs of Ohio’s booming economic sector, partnering with communities and businesses to connect in-demand workers and students to jobs. Public transit is a critical part of connecting employers to America’s workforce.
Transit drives our economy, with statistics showing that every $1 invested in public transit generates $4 in economic return. Whether getting to area shopping centers, local airports, libraries, parks, bike trails, or countless other destinations—transit will get you there.
Ohio loves transit and Ohio needs transit… to keep Ohio moving forward.
“As Ohio’s largest provider of rail for public transportation, our system has proven to be one of our region’s greatest assets for mobility enhancement for Greater Cleveland residents,” said India L. Birdsong Terry, CEO and General Manager of GCRTA. “We are proud to celebrate Ohio Loves Transit along with our sister agencies across the state”.
Along with several industry partners, GCRTA will join the Ohio Public Transit Association (OPTA) to celebrate the eighth annual Ohio Loves Transit Week, February 9 – 15, 2025, highlighted by Ohio Loves Transit Day, on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
Ohio Loves Transit Week is hosted by our partner, the Ohio Public Transit Association.
OPTA is the primary advocate for public transportation in Ohio. Being over 500 members strong from 65 transit agencies across the state, the association provides leadership, resources, training, technical assistance, media outreach, public engagement, and governmental relations services to public and private transit agencies.
