Fare Violations

Charged a $25 administrative fee
- If paid within 72 business hours, no criminal citation filed
- If not paid in 72 business hours, citation referred to court for criminal prosecution
Fee must be paid to the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA)
- In person at RTA’s Customer Service Center in Tower City (7:00am - 6:00pm) by cash, MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express; or by cashier’s check or money order, payable to RTA. No personal checks.
- Online at violations.shoprta.com by MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express.
If unpaid within 72 business hours, citations will be forwarded to the appropriate Clerk of Courts for processing.
If adult receives more than one violation within 24 months, the administrative fee will not be offered in lieu of a criminal citation

First offense, juvenile receives a warning
- Written, a copy given to juvenile and sent to parent or guardian at home
Second and subsequent offense(s), a fee of $25 if received within 30 days

  Must be received within 30 days of violation date. Do not mail cash.
If paid within 30 days, no further action is taken
If unpaid within 30 days, the record will be forwarded to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s office, Juvenile Division, for referral to the county’s Community Diversion program.
