Come Look At a Restored 1965 RTA Bus

Jul 29, 2024

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) is showcasing a restored 1965 RTA bus on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, from 8:00-9:30a.m. in front of our Main Office Building at 1240 W.6th St., as part of RTA’s 50th Anniversary celebration.

This classic RTA bus was used for revenue service when Cleveland Transit System (CTS) changed and became known as the Regional Transit Authority after former Cleveland Mayor Ralph Perk signed the RTA legislation on December 30, 1974.

GCRTA Operation employees in the Fleet Management Department originally came up with the idea to restore a classic RTA bus to display at Touch-A-Truck events, but then expanded their idea as a way to take part in the authority wide 50th Anniversary celebration.

“The most challenging part of restoring the bus was getting it all cleaned up and presentable after being in storage for decades,” said Jeffrey Adams, GCRTA Central Equipment Manager.

“As we begin to celebrate RTA’s 50th Anniversary, we are excited to share this piece of Cleveland History with the Greater Cleveland community,” said GCRTA Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Floun’say R. Caver.

All are welcome to come see the classic bus, walk inside, take selfies, and imagine what it was like to ride an RTA bus some 50 years ago.
