Warrensville - Van Aken Station Reconstruction

About this Project

The Warrensville – Van Aken Station is in Shaker Heights and serves the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority’s (GCRTA) Light Rail system at the end of the Blue Line. The Station was rehabilitated in 1982, with ADA modifications made in 1998. The Public Roadways and bus driveway were adjusted in 2013 for redevelopment of the area. The Station needs modifications to provide quality service with new developmental changes. The ADA accessibility also needs to be updated to today’s standards.

GCRTA partnered with The City of Shaker Heights and the Van Aken District owners, RMS, to enhance the station area and create a strong connection to the adjacent commercial district, neighborhoods and RTA busway which serves as a transfer point between the number 14, 14A, 41 and 41A bus routes.

Funding/Budget/Cost:

Estimate: $6,800,000

Demolition of the existing station.
Construction of a new comfort station building.
Construct a new train station waiting platform for modified rail track.
Construction of retaining walls and installation of decorative fences to restrict access to areas around the site infrastructure.
Adjust and upgrade walkways around the station to improve access between the train station platform and the existing RTA busway.
Installation of new signs, lighting, and security infrastructure such as cameras and emergency phone call boxes.
