Following his high school graduation in 2007, Jones pursued his passion at Ohio Diesel College, earning a master's tech certification in automotive, diesel repair, and high-performance vehicles.
In 2009, he gained experience as a mechanic at Firestone for a year before joining Bill DeLuca Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram Company. Later, Jones continued his journey by becoming a valuable member of Bruce Whitaker's Hot Rod Shop, specializing in car restoration and maintenance.
GCRTA Career Story
In 2010, Cardell started his career at GCRTA as an Entry-Level Technician, operating a mobile truck and familiarizing himself with all bus routes. By 2014, he had risen to the position of Grade-Five Lead Mechanic, serving as a lead technician at the GCRTA Hayden District. In this role, he played a crucial part in managing and mentoring new technicians.
Seeking continuous improvement, Cardell reengaged with the GCRTA Frontline Leader Training course in 2020. This six-month program, sponsored by Tri-C, equips supervisors and managers with essential skills for effective leadership and training. Cardell further pursued his passion for mechanics by establishing Urban Mechanics, his small auto repair shop. Notably, the shop takes pride in offering employment opportunities to former felons, providing them with a second chance in life.
In 2022, Cardell achieved the position of Assistant Equipment Manager at the GCRTA Hayden District.
