The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) would like to thank Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio General Assembly for their continued support of public transit in the recently approved state transportation budget.
The budget secured a $27 million investment in Ohio Workforce Mobility Partnership (OWMP) grants over the next two years to advance workforce mobility, expand access to jobs, drive economic development, and connect communities to opportunity across Ohio.
“We are very appreciative to Governor DeWine, Senate President McColley, House Speaker Huffman, House and Senate majority and minority leadership, Transportation Chairs Senator Patton and Representative Willis, Ohio Department of Transportation, and the Cuyahoga delegation for their continued support to public transit for our workforce,” said GCRTA General Manager and Chief Executive Officer India L. Birdsong Terry. “This investment identifies the essential role of transit in keeping our communities and economy advancing forward as we continue building a workforce-ready greater Cleveland area.”
GCRTA will use OWMP grant funds on a Microtransit feasibility study to evaluate first mile/last mile solutions in western Cuyahoga and eastern Lorain counties to connect public transit riders directly to their places of work, and to improve high-boarding bus stop infrastructure in job-dense areas to improve the transit waiting experience.
