CLEVELAND, OHIO, October 18, 2018 – The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2017 operating and capital budget. The award is conferred by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), an organization representing public finance officials dedicated to excellence in state and local government financial management across the U.S. and Canada. It’s the 30th consecutive year RTA has won the budget presentation award.
“We’re all pleased that, once again, RTA is recognized on a national and international level for its solid financial program,” said Dr. Floun'say Caver, RTA Interim CEO, General Manager/Secretary-Treasurer. “These consecutive awards show that RTA has a long-demonstrated history of operating efficiently within budget constraints. We are committed to managing every taxpayer- and customer-generated dollar as if it were coming from our own pocket.”
Dr. Caver added, “RTA is honored to be recognized for its long-term commitment to employing the principles of sound fiscal management with the delivery of the highest possible service to our customers.”
The GFOA calls the award “a significant achievement” for RTA, reflecting the commitment of the Authority to meeting the highest standards of governmental budgeting. “Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting, and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America,” according to GFOA.
“Our goal and our commitment continues to be increasing efficiency so we can help the nearly 130,000 riders who take RTA every day to get to work, get home, and get wherever they need to go,” said Dr. Caver. "While we are delighted to receive the GFOA award, we are constantly working to improve our budget management and execution to ensure that we are delivering on our mission, our vision and our values.”
