CLEVELAND, OH – The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is distributing masks to riders throughout RTA’s service area this summer. The “Need a Mask, Take a Mask” events will take place for the remainder of June through August. Due to limited supplies, mask will be available:
- While supplies last
- On a first come, first serve basis
- One per person
- Only to riders who are present
RTA staff and volunteers will distribute the masks along with the CDC’s guidelines for wearing and washing a cloth mask, as well as RTA promotional items and information about RTA’s mobile ticketing app. For dates and times of these events, visit our Coronavirus Ride Safe page.
“We’re encouraging customers to use the RTA mobile ticketing app in order to purchase fare media and then show their purchased fare to operators upon boarding – without touching anything but their own phone,” said RTA Chief Operating Officer Dr. Floun’say Caver.
“The app was already a popular option for our customers, but now in the midst of a pandemic, it makes even more sense for customers to use their own phone to purchase and show payment of fare,” Caver said.
The cloth masks have been made available to RTA by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and FEMA. They have been working to outfit essential workers across the United States by donating 15.5 million cloth masks, with 4.8 million of those masks specifically allocated to public transit agencies.
“We thank DOT and FEMA for supplying us with masks to not only protect our employees but our riders, as well,” said Caver.
