Cleveland, OH -- Every segment of Ohio - businesses, communities, individuals, and families - benefits from public transportation, an essential service that enhances economic development, ensures sustainable lifestyles, and promotes a higher quality of life.
The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) provides over 22 million rides each year, helping to create and maintain jobs that are essential in keeping our communities strong. Public transit supports the local economy, as statistics show that every $1 invested in public transit generates $4 in economic return. Statewide, public transit offers 59,000,000 rides per year to Ohioans.
GCRTA continues to meet the daily mobility needs of Ohio’s economic sector, by partnering with communities and businesses to connect in-demand workers to employment, students to educational institutions, children to parks and recreation, visitors to local airports, elderly to medical appointments, and much more.
"As Ohio’s largest provider of rail for public transportation, our system has proven to be one of our region’s greatest assets for mobility enhancement for Greater Cleveland residents," said India L. Birdsong Terry, CEO and General Manager of GCRTA. "We are proud to celebrate Ohio Loves Transit along with our sister agencies across the state."
Along with several industry partners, GCRTA will join the Ohio Public Transit Association (OPTA) to celebrate the seventh annual Ohio Loves Transit Week, February 11 - 17th, 2024, highlighted by Ohio Loves Transit Day, on Tuesday, February 13th, 2024.
OPTA is the primary advocate for public transportation in Ohio, with over 500 members representing 67 transit agencies across Ohio. The association provides leadership, resources, training, support, technical assistance, media outreach, public engagement, and governmental relations services to public and private transit agencies.
Ohio loves transit and Ohio needs transit... to keep Ohio moving forward.
GCRTA will be celebrating this week with a social media photo contest. For more information on our local activity in support of Ohio Loves Transit Week, go to https://www.riderta.com/blogs/ohio-loves-transit-week-photo-contest.
