Workforce shortage is far too common today. In an effort to be proactive in attracting new Operators, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) has increased the hourly salary for their Student Operators. Those increases are as follows:
• Bus Student Operators
$17 per hour (non-CDL)
$20 per hour upon successful completion of permanent CDL Testing
• Paratransit Student Operators
$17 per hour (non-CDL)
$18.50 per hour upon successful completion of permanent CDL Testing
• Rail Student Operators
$17 per hour
$20 per hour upon successful completion of Light Rail training portion of the Rail Operator training program
“We want to make sure that our salaries are competitive and offer our employees opportunity for upward mobility and a sustaining wage,” said GCRTA General Manager, Chief Executive Officer India L. Birdsong Terry.
In addition to a sustaining salary, GCRTA offers a total compensation package that includes opportunities for training, career development, and a pension through the public employee retirement system (PERS). GCRTA also supports students in obtaining their CDL license.
“This increase in salary is designed to motivate and recruit potential new Operators to GCRTA,” said GCRTA Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Floun’say R. Caver. “It demonstrates our commitment to ensure employees are compensated competitively during the student training program.”
