The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) today welcomed 14 new transit police officers and their families at a swearing-in ceremony inside GCRTA’s Main Office Building at 1240 West 6th St., Cleveland, Ohio 44113. GCRTA Chief of Police, Deirdre Jones administered the Police Officer’s Oath to the department’s newest members.
“These new officers bring unique experiences to GCRTA’s Transit Police, which is immensely valuable in policing,” said Chief Deirdre Jones. “We are thrilled to have them as part of the team and are excited to see what they accomplish here at GCRTA.”
The officers are currently being paired with a field training officer where they will learn the operational aspects of the job over the next six months. After successful completion, they will receive their assignments.
“This group of men and women gave their all at the Police Academies they attended,” said GCRTA General Manager and Chief Executive Officer India L. Birdsong Terry. “I know we will see that same effort and dedication as they officially join our transit police family and rise in the ranks while performing their duty. Congratulations, and welcome aboard.”
