The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) received the 2024 Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) Northeast Ohio Innovative Transportation Solutions Award today during a special breakfast presentation event at the Great Lakes Science Center.
GCRTA was recognized for their "Baby on Board" program, a program aimed at reducing transportation barriers for pregnant woman or families with a child 2 years or less in age living in Cuyahoga County.
In January 2021, GCRTA, in partnership with the Cuyahoga County Board of Health (CCBH), received a grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to start the Baby on Board program. The program provides free transit passes to expectant and new mothers, fathers, and family members, in addition to improving bus stop amenities such as shelters, seating, lighting, and sidewalk connections near key destinations. Over the three years of its existence, the program has distributed an excess of 5,300 passes.
“We are very excited and honored to receive this award,” said GCRTA Director of Programming & Planning, Maribeth Feke. “The Baby on Board program demonstrates GCRTA’s commitment to its mission of connecting the community by focusing on providing transportation to expectant and new mothers, fathers, and family members.”
WTS, is an international organization that supports, advances, and connects women who work in transportation, advocates for shaping transportation to support the public good.
